Musings of a Marketer on 2019 Trends [Expert Insights]
One of the things we’re proud to have at BDSmktg is a team of industry experts who are constantly on the pulse of what’s new and ingrained in various industries, including participating in councils, boards, networks, and conferences. These long-time BDSers continually challenge themselves to learn, grow, and evolve as leaders in their fields. As we approach the new year, we’re excited to be launching a new series of articles featuring insights straight from thought leaders throughout our agency. From Marketing, to Digital, to Finance, we’ll be bringing these experts out from behind the scenes to share their experiences, knowledge, and insights directly with you.
Our first expert insight article features Melissa Burke, Director of Marketing for BDSmktg. In October, she attended the &then2018 DMA conference in Las Vegas, and came back to sunny Orange County with a handful of “aha” moments, ideas, and insights from her fellow marketing peers. From customer centricity to making that great first impression, Melissa serves up nine trends in her latest LinkedIn article to keep an eye on in 2019 based on her insights from the conference. We’re recapping our favorite thoughts from her below:
On design:
“With the widespread access to graphic design and digital photography, we have acquired an elevated design aesthetic.”
“Not only does it need to look good, but it needs make our audience FEEL something.”
“If it doesn’t move you, it won’t move anyone else.”
On the customer experience:
“First impressions last forever, and a poor first impression could mean a consumer never considers your brand again.”
“Not just offering custom products, but designing a customer-centric culture that provides customers with an exceptional customer service, before and after the sale.”
“How can you make it easier and quicker for your customers to shop from you?”
On data and marketing:
“While we might have more data then we know what to do with, the goal is still to make a human connection, and data is just a tool to do that more accurately.”
“…how do you plant the seed? Show them how it fits into their lifestyle so that they want it? Make it aspirational?”
“To pivot is to change directions. Try something new. Take risks. Test and learn. Walk away.”
